Richmond North Yorkshire, self-catering holiday cottages
Perched above the river is the Norman castle, founded in the 11th century by Alan Rufus.
Local history is in the Richmondshire Museum, and the Georgian Theatre Royal and Museum is one of the oldest theatres in England.
Two cinemas, a restaurant, cafe, ice cream parlour, micro brewery, bakery and art gallery are all housed under the roof of the recently renovated Victorian station. It's full steam ahead for the terminus that welcomed its last train more than forty years ago!
