Garden Cottage

Delightful, unique, historic cottage for up to six - perfect holiday home, with enclosed garden and off street parking. Children and dogs welcome.

Situated in the historic market town of Richmond in North Yorkshire, Garden Cottage is within a few minutes walk of the Market Place with its interesting local shops, restaurants and pubs and a similarly short walk to the River Swale and woodland walks.

Garden Cottage has been lovingly and beautifully renovated and decorated. It is conveniently set between the edge of the old part of town and the lovely Swaledale countryside.

Garden Cottage

Garden Cottage faces south with views across the garden to Billy Banks Woods. The view east is of Richmond's Norman castle - the rising sun pierces the great, arched window. it is ideally placed with town to the east and countryside south and west - all just a few minutes walk from the front door.

This pretty, Victorian gardener's cottage was built in the former kitchen garden of Elizabethan Yorke House. The cottage looks over a secure, south-facing private garden with spectacular views of Richmond castle & Billy Banks Woods...

Guest Comments

"We really loved the cottage - wonderful location to explore the area. What a lovely property. Situated brilliantly within Richmond. The walled garden is beautiful. Easy access to the Dales, we enjoyed all sorts around. Wish we were staying longer, but that's life. All COVID measures taken, and we complied with all needed. No complaints, other than you need a potato masher and pizza cutter! We still managed, we clearly didn't expire!!! Thank you for letting us stay. Xx"

- Family Holiday for Grown Ups and Kids

"We had a great time based in this lovely house and astonishing garden. Lots to do in lovely Richmond and some good pubs in nearby villages - George and Dragon at Hudswell a top one. Take the kids to The Forbidden Corner if you wat to scare the daylights out of them and the Green Howard's Museum is a very interesting destination. Try Stonegate Farmshop as an alternative to the brashness of Mainsgill. Have fun! PS On our final night we went to the Bolton Arms in Downholme - that was pub of the week - food and beer exemplary."

"We have had a marvellous holiday at Mr. Yorke's Garden Cottage. A real home-from-home. We have enjoyed the beautiful garden and the views, castles and museums have been explored. Do visit Bowes Museum and the Georgian Theatre here in town. Restaurants have been variable, but can recommend Rustique and The Fleece was excellent. Only regret? Not seeing enough of the beautiful doggies!"

- A Week's Stay in Richmond

"Such magnificence - Richmond's Garden Cottage and Mr. Yorke's Walled Garden, who could ask for more? We've thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this 5* setting with a truly home-from-home feel. Thank you again, Dennis and Marcia. You know we'll be back!"

"Wow!! Wow!! Wow!! What a fabulous place, we were blown away. Cottage surpassed all expectations, everything we needed and wanted for a holiday. Richmond is a beautiful place, lots of fab walking around town, views around every corner. We loved the walk to the George and Dragon...those steps! So good we did it twice, even in wet weather - call us foolish - ha ha! The food, what can I say? We never had a bad meal - even the fish and chips and pizza takeaway were great. We liked Rustique for an upmarket option. The Black Lion and Castle Tavern provided a great pub meal. Mocha for excellent coffee and chocolate. And must mention the Pie Shop in the square - so good. We will be back. Thank you so much for letting us stay. xxx"

- Second Visit

"We've had a great week in Garden Cottage - what a super, tranquil spot. Richmond is a wonderful town with so much to offer and we've enjoyed exploring. Sorry to be leaving, it has gone too quickly, we will definitely return to sample some more country walks. We also had the added bonus of Open Garden day on Sunday, it looked stunning, what a project! Love the flowers in the cottage, made it very welcoming. Our little Schnauzer, Leo, has also enjoyed his stay and had loads of walks. Thanks, Marcia and Dennis."
